Privacy
CatchUp helps new and returning viewers understand a creator's stream through published context, moments and connected stream history.
Joseph Oakes is responsible for this pilot and is its data controller. For privacy questions, corrections or requests, email joseph@builtby2.co.uk.
Creator recordings and original transcripts stay on the creator's computer. The viewer service receives published summaries, selected transcript excerpts the creator has shared, and source-bound images. The viewer Extension does not record your microphone or read your chat messages.
Information used by the pilot
- Creator material. The creator companion processes recordings or an explicitly enabled microphone, local transcripts, creator notes and selected recording frames. Speech recognition and context generation use local models. CatchUp does not send original recordings or complete source transcripts to an external AI service.
- Published stream context. The viewer can receive summaries, timestamps, source references, published frames and only transcript excerpts explicitly shared by the creator. Automatic summaries can be published after the creator enables that option; original transcripts are not automatically shared as quotes.
- Public Twitch information. CatchUp uses channel identity, profile images and bio, broadcast title/category/live state and available clip or recording metadata to associate context with its source.
- Temporary authorization. Twitch supplies a short-lived Extension token containing channel and role information and potentially an opaque viewer identifier. CatchUp checks authorization to serve the correct channel. It does not request identity sharing, build viewer profiles, or persist tokens or opaque viewer identifiers. Tokens are held temporarily in browser memory and checked by the backend; CatchUp does not deliberately log their contents.
- Connection and support information. Hosting and network providers can process IP addresses, requested URLs, device/browser information, timestamps and security or diagnostic logs. If you email support, Joseph receives your email address, message and any information you choose to include.
Why this information is used
The purposes are to deliver source-linked context for the intended channel, maintain connected stream history, handle corrections and support, and protect the service from misuse. Where UK data-protection law applies, Joseph relies on legitimate interests in operating this optional pilot for those purposes, balanced against people's rights and expectations. Creator capture is separately controlled through an explicit local opt-in.
CatchUp does not use the pilot material to train a model. It does not add advertising, sell personal information, post to chat, or use automated decisions to determine people's legal or similarly significant outcomes. Generated summaries can be inaccurate; creators can correct or retract them.
Where information goes
Twitch delivers the Extension and provides public channel and clip information. Vercel hosts these information pages and the public viewer gateway. Cloudflare Tunnel carries permitted viewer requests to a separate read-only service on Joseph's computer. Those providers handle network traffic and the published content returned to viewers; the original recordings, complete transcripts, local model and Extension signing secret remain local.
The creator's published material is shown to people who can access the Extension on that channel. Support email is handled through the email services used by Joseph and the sender. No custom analytics or advertising scripts are added to these pages or the Extension.
Infrastructure providers may process information outside the UK or EEA. Their data-processing terms describe safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and UK transfer addenda where applicable. Contact Joseph for information about the arrangements used for this pilot. See Vercel's privacy notice, Vercel's data-processing addendum, Cloudflare's privacy policy, Cloudflare's data-processing addendum and Twitch's privacy notice.
Storage and retention
Creator files, original transcripts, notes and the local database are retained on the creator's computer to support the connected stream history and correction workflow. The pilot does not automatically delete all such material after a fixed number of days. Retention depends on whether material remains needed for the creator's history, an active support or correction request, or a legal obligation.
Published context remains available while it is part of the creator's published history. Retraction or removal stops new viewer access to the affected publication and its protected media; it does not delete original local files or recall copies already seen or saved by others. Contact Joseph to request correction or removal of material relating to you.
Support correspondence is kept as needed to resolve the request and maintain a relevant record. Hosting providers may retain their own operational or security logs under their policies. CatchUp does not promise that those providers keep no logs.
Cookies and local controls
The CatchUp viewer and these static information pages do not add tracking cookies or persist authorization tokens in browser storage. Twitch and infrastructure providers operate their own services under their policies. The private creator workspace uses a local session cookie and request-protection value for its controls; these are not forwarded through the public viewer gateway.
Viewers can close or hide the Extension using its controls or Twitch's Extension controls. Creators can disable companion capture, pause automatic publication, edit or retract context, and revoke shared transcript excerpts. Removing the Twitch Extension does not itself erase local creator recordings.
Your rights and questions
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict or object to processing, and obtain information in a portable form where that right applies. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email joseph@builtby2.co.uk with enough information to identify the relevant channel, stream or material. Joseph may need to verify the request before acting.
You can raise a concern with your local data-protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office. This notice will be updated when the pilot's described processing changes.
